"GOD'S DESIGNS" BECOME MINISTRIES

Tireless and 'enlightened', always ready to follow 'God's designs' and the needs of the poor, Mother Frances led the young Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother with care. The work grew uninterruptedly. New houses were opened, hospitals were built, schools were established, and a very delicate service was often provided at the sanatoriums of the time, which needed a constant, loving and courageous, sometimes even heroic presence.
The educational centers swarmed with children. Many families received the most exquisite and varied care from the sisters who, between one service and another, also visited and cared for the sick at home with zeal and discretion. Wherever there was a pressing need, there seemed to be a Sister of the Sorrowful Mother ready "to teach and heal in the name of Jesus".

Underlining this it is not celebratory, but it is like warming oneself to the fire of a memory that inflames our mission today and finds light to "walk in the light"; "for a city that is on a mountain cannot be hidden. Men can not light a lamp and put it under a bushel basket. They set it on a stand where it gives light to all who in the house”

(Mt 5:14 -15).

Searching through the documents of the General Archives, we have collected what has come down to us concerning these works. From year to year, we have traced the places and apostolic ministries of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, from 1883 to 2019.
More research is needed, but more information may not be found because of the humility of the sisters, much was not preserved. Certainly so much good would have have been done but not recorded. It only remains in the heart of God, who "inspires one to work according to his plan of love" (Phil 2:13).
