VIENNA

Maria Theresien Hospital

APPROFONDIMENTI02.jpg

In May 1894, the sisters took over the management of the Viennese women's hospital, the "Maria Theresia Krankenhaus," receiving for this service board, lodging and a modest monetary compensation, as Mother Frances herself wrote, eagerly giving Fr. Jock a kind of 'mandate' "to promote the best good for our congregation. And again, she wrote to Fr. Joch: "In Vienna, too, the Lord has blessed our work. The hospital where six of our sisters work is in good condition; almost every day there are several major surgeries, excellent doctors, and there are no economic worries. The tables are made of thick glass, and very clean.” This work blessed by God was carried out with zeal until 1899, when many of the sisters had to leave to support the hospitals opened in America.
