AN ALERT INTELLECT

Mother Frances “at the age of four began her studies early, learning short poems. …When she was six years old, she was first taught by the Sisters of Notre Dame, to whom the girls' school in the town was entrusted. She was quick-witted, learned easily and had a good memory and clear judgement" (Fr. Aquilin Reichert).

After completing her elementary education, she was sent by her parents to Augsburg in 1858, to continue her higher education at the 'Maria Stern' Institute run by the Franciscan Sisters who, in addition to traditional school subjects, promoted the teaching of languages and music. Mother Frances learned French and carefully studied the violin and piano.

THAT HEALTHY YOUTHFUL RESTLESSNESS

After four years, in 1862, she successfully completed her studies, obtained her teaching diploma and returned to her family in Mellrichstadt. She devoted herself to a rather withdrawn and quiet life. She was marked by a healthy restlessness that usually emerges during the journey of vocational discernment, when one perceives the first signs of a genuine desire for consecration and asks: "Lord, what do you want me to do?".

I ask you, like the young Francesca Streitel,
"are you willing to listen to Jesus and change something about yourselves?"
