On March 9, 1891, St. Mary's Hospital opened in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Already on February 25, 1891, Mother Frances and two other sisters had arrived from Marshfield to Oshkosh to open this fourth mission. They had found an empty house, and the first night they made do with sleeping on the floor, unfolding the three blankets they had brought from Marshifield. Other sisters joined them later and all together, they diligently cleaned, vigorously scrubbing every nook and cranny of the house to prepare the building, a two-story structure, for the opening and reception of the sick. A new hospital was built in 1894 and further expansions extensions were made in 1905. In 1914, a nursing school was also established and later, in the spring of 1918, the congregation also took over the administration of Lakeside Hospital which, at the suggestion of Bishop Rhode, changed its name to 'Mercy Hospital'.
