“May . . . graces give light to my words!”
(Mother Frances Streitel)

THE RECIPIENT OF THE LETTERS
Mother Salesia Ellersdorfer
Maria Ellersdorfer, whose religious name was Sr. Salesia, was born on September 25, 1812, in Munich. She lost her parents at a young age and was therefore brought up by an uncle in Augsburg. She entered the convent of Maria Stern, where she made her profession in 1835. From 1843 until her death (1888), she was Superior General of the Institute of the Third Order of St Francis, Maria Stern, including the time when Mother Frances, then Sr. Angela, was a member of this Institute. Sr. Salesia was blessed by God with clear ideals, an energetic will, rich life experience and human knowledge. The institute flourished under her leadership. She died at the age of 75 in Augsburg, where she was buried.
