“May . . . graces give light to my words!”
(Mother Frances Streitel)

THE RECIPIENT OF THE LETTERS
Msgr. Pankratius von Dinkel, Bishop of Augsburg
Pankratius von Dinkel was born in 1811 in Staffelstein, Archdiocese of Bamberg, where he was also ordained a priest in 1834. In 1843, he became parish priest of Erlangen, and Bishop of Augsburg in 1858. He took part in the Vatican I Council, along with other bishops from Bavaria. The convent of Maria Stern in Augsburg was under his jurisdiction, thus, he dealt with the question of Mother Frances' dispensation of vows. He clarified the misunderstandings and resolved difficulties between Father Jordan and Msgr. Jacquemin, his appointees in Rome, through correspondence. Bishop Pankratius von Dinkel died in 1894 at the age of 83.
