RECIPIENT OF THE LETTER

Maria Sigrist

Maria Sigrist, later M. Josepha of Divine Providence, Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, was born on March 13, 1834 in Lippoldsweiler, Switzerland, in the Diocese of Basel. She converted to the Catholic faith and worked as a maid at the residence of a Cardinal in Rome. At the age of 56, in 1890, she entered the Congregation in Rome, serving the community willingly. She died at the age of 79 in Marshfield, Wisconsin, where she was buried.
