In the spring of 1918, the Congregation took over the administration of Lakeside Hospital, and on June 1st of the same year the medical service was inaugurated. It became a prestigious surgical center and home for the elderly. Bishop Rhode, who blessed the hospital, suggested the name Mercy Hospital for the new building.
