"LIKE THE GRAIN OF WHEAT"

Writing to the Bishop of Augsburg in September 1881, Mother Frances recalled her state of mind at that time:

“In 1866, I entered the Convent of Maria Stern in Augsburg and in doing so had but one wish of finding there an occupation with the sick. But the Reverend Mother Superior there, to whom I had confessed my inclination to serve the sick, said to me, "No". Therefore, I had to continue studying French and music, subjects because of my love of simplicity, I had greatly neglected in my parental home, although it was my duty to practice them.  God knows what I suffered during the first three months. Severe nostalgia assailed me, and it was only my firm will, supported by the powerful grace of God, that made me persevere and exercise self-denial whenever I had to comform myself to a calling completely alien to my own spiritual tendencies”.
