"LIKE THE GRAIN OF WHEAT"

On October 14, 1910, Mother Frances was invited to Rome for the 25th anniversary of Msgr. Jacquemin’s service for the Congregation. On this occasion she was presented by him to the sisters and novices gathered as the Foundress of the Congregation. After the feast she stayed only a few days in Rome, then returned with the local Superior, Sr. M. Bernarda, to Castel Sant'Elia.
At the end of November, she asked to attend a ten-day spiritual retreat, even though she had already attended with the community. On February 2, 1911, she fainted in the chapel, after which she was forced to remain in bed, as she suffered severe and continuous headaches. On the night of February 27th and 28th the situation worsened and in full conscience she received Holy Viaticum and the Anointing of the Sick.
Bishop Doebbing visited her several times and asked for her prayers for the Diocese and the Church. On the evening of March 5th, Msgr. Jacquemin arrived from Rome to assist the dying woman, bringing a special apostolic blessing from Pope Pius X, with a plenary indulgence. At dawn on March 6th, the day of the final approval of the Congregation and the Constitutions, Mother Frances started agonizing and during the Eucharistic celebration, at the moment of the Gloria, she died in peace surrounded by the sisters who had rushed to her bedside. After the recitation of the Stabat Mater the sisters returned to the chapel to continue the Holy Mass. The body was displayed in the kindergarten hall to allow people to pause in prayer and honor Mother Frances. On March 9, 1911, the Municipality of Castel Sant'Elia prepared at its own expenses a solemn funeral as a sign of gratitude.
