On July 5, 2009, the parish unit "Franziska Streitel" was established in Mellrichstadt by Bishop Friedhelm Hofmann (Diocese of Wirzburg, Bad Neustadt). The parish unit consists of the Parishes of St. Kilian (Mellrichstadt), St. Alban (Hendungen), St. Bartholomew (Eußenhausen), St. George (Frickenhausen), St. Andrew (Oberstreu) and St. Johannes der Täufer (Mittelstreu). Mother Franziska Streitel was named patron of the Parish Unit which includes about 4,500 Catholic Christians. Considering the veneration of the people for the Mater Dolorosa and the spirituality of Venerable Frances Streitel, on the third Sunday of September, the Parish Unit celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows as a solemn local feast.
