Centenary of the Transit of Mother Frances Streitel
CASTEL SANT'ELIA, MARCH 6, 2011
The centenary celebrations for Mother Frances Streitel were prepared by a week of evangelization which involved all age groups of the population of Castel Sant'Elia. The novices and the young sisters committed themselves in proclaiming the joy of being Christians, making Mother Frances' spirit and life, a luminous witness of the Gospel, better known. The solemn celebrations opened on Saturday, March 5th, in the Basilica of St. Joseph with the sky light and the solemn celebration of Vespers presided by His Eminence Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski. On Sunday, March 6th, the solemn celebration of the Eucharist was presided over by Bishop Romano Rossi with the participation of the Rector of the Shrine, Fr. Pietro Burek; the parish priest, Fr. Riccardo; and many other priests, friends and collaborators. The celebration took place in the Basilica of St. Elijah, festively decorated and crowded with sisters, parishioners from Mellrichstadt, the birthplace of Mother Frances, along with the presence of the civil and military authorities and many of Mother Frances’ devotees. General Superior Sr. M. Teresina Marra introduced the celebration, thanking those present for the joyful sharing of the event.
